I'm trying to set up my 55 gal tank as a planted aquarium. I really
have no ideal where to start and I would like to have some general
information about it. What all do I need to do? Any help at all would
be greatly appreciated.

First decide what plants you want to keep, or at least what type of plants
(low light vs. high light) Once you do that, you may or may not need to
change or add to your equipment. What kind of lighting do you have now?
Also, what kind of substrate (gravel)? Water perameters and conditions also
might be helpful. Let us know as much information about your tank, and we
can help you. Alternatively, these links are helpful:

and there are lots more: hence:

Here's some very general information:

It's a very short article, but it will give you an idea of what's involved, and
the decisions you'll have to make if you want to keep plants.

Consider ordering a 55-60 gallon tank assortment from trueaquariumplants.com.
When I got my 55 gallon tank last September, I had no clue about what types of
plants I could put in it. Phyl (the owner) asked me what my tank setup was,
made some recommendations as to what to change to up my chance for success, and
then customized the assortment she sent to me to suit my tank. She will spend
as much time with you as you need to answer all your questions and make sure
you know how to proceed planting and maintaining your tank.

Note: I don't work for her and am in no way affiliated with her -- I am just
very impressed with her customer service and quality of plants (like I've said
in here about a million times) and think that places as good as hers should be
recommended to help keep her business booming. :)

I am planning on purchasing a double bright light strips that holds
two 40 watt bulbs. But I am not going to buy anything high dollar
until I know what I need to do. That way if I want to change my mind
it's not going to cost me. About plants: I've been looking at packages
from petsolutions.com It's between tropical river and easy grow with
a few extras. as for substrate I have 50 lbs of amazon gravel from
thatpetplace.com and I'm not sure whether I need to add flourite or
laterite. I've had this tank up and running before but I've broke it
down. It's been setting empty for a few weeks now and I'm starting
completely over. Anything else I need to add?

I went out to your website and seen your pics of your acquaruims.
Those are great looking tanks. Could you give me some advice on how
you started them and the steps you took?

I am going to order from a mail order place not sure which one yet.
But she's been very helpful and provided lots of information on plants
and answered all of my questions.
