We have just moved into a new house that is covered in ivy and new bits are
popping up in the garden beds everyday. Does anyone have a surefire method
of exterminating it?

Glyphosate will kill the whole plant, if that's what you want (then you
will have ivy marks all over the walls) If you just want to get it out
of the garden, there is probably a main stem or two growing into the
garden that you can cut off, then dig it out, or just poison that bit.

It takes some time. But weeding and liberal use of roundup (anti-weed)
sprays will do the trick.
My whole garden was covered in the bloody stuff - thanks to the yank amway
tenant who lived there last.
It took me a good three years to remove them all. Some still pop up from
time to time. But a handy weeder will do the trick.
