Non-Invasive Floating Plants

Hey

I'd like to get some floating plants for my tank, but my previous
experience has always been that the damn things multiply exponentially and
simply add to the chore of weekly culling.

Are there any species around that won't attempt to take over the tank?

Alternatively, i was considering tying a mop of java moss to something
bouyant, anyone tried this or know if it would work?

Frogbit. A nice floating plant that grows fast, but is easier to control
than
most floating plants. It can be restricted to a certain area in your tank
by using fishingline just below the water surface, strung out and held in
place
using suction cups.

I've had good luck with azolla. While it can cover the tank it is easy to thin
out and grows reasonably slow.

moon what do you mean by trees? I would like to see your bonsai stuff you

I grow bald cypress and water tupelo trees in my some of my aquariums. You need
an intense light source but they grow well. I keep them trimmed to about 18"
tall. The roots take over the bottom of the aquarium. I don't have any PICs to
show maybe someday I'll get around to setting up a web site. Cattails are cool
too.

Water sprite. It will attempt to take over the tank, but since it grows into
one big plant instead of thousands of little ones, it's a lot easier to
control.
