My garden and pastures are slowly drinking in the rain that has been falling
on-and-off for 4 days. So far 60mm and more on the way. The cracks are
closing, the grass is growing and tanks are full. The steady showers are
filling up the subsoil with almost no runoff which is great. Perhaps in a
couple of days if the big sponge is getting full some runoff to refill the
dams and to get the river going would be nice. The horses have all calmed
down and stopped charging about - they seem to know their life will be
better now. Sadly, for the moment, it looks like the rain in NSW will be
mainly east of the ranges down to about Sydney.

We run a retirement herd for elderly and unsound horses, eleven at last
count.

yep a good drop up here inb sth/e-q, started friday got 93.5mm don't
think that sort of rain has fallen about for a long time in one hit,
and got 17mm for the saturday on top of that not sure what's out there
now might be another 10+mm, but good soaking stuff.

be good if some of it ends up down vic' way in those fire areas.

Will someone please tow some of that rain into Victoria please.
We are doing it tough here.
Those people with matches are at it again, back burning and smoke is thicker
than our premier, who should have done this back burning months ago.
Instead he's building a power hungry desalination plant which he could have
avoided if he put some dams in areas where rain falls more often than where
the Thompson dam is.
The desalination plant will be ready when every thing is burnt to a crisp...
Meanwhile the power needed to run these places will probably come from
nuclear facilities as the wind power wont be enough.
Try telling them that though.......

i'm sure nth/east-q would love to send their rain your way, even here
inb the sth/east you can have what we are currently getting, and count
nthn-nsw in that as well.

well i remember when back burning used to get down through the winter
months, they don't even do it up here. oh well that is the warm fuzzy
feeling the green promote about our habitat, and the people who
promote it live in the cities and don't see the issues. then on the
other hand it is people who make the decision to go live among the gum
trees, in wooden structured homes.

same issue here dams built in areas that now don't get the rainfall
they used to get, but now nought can be done about it as the best
areas ahve been built out by those who live among the gum trees.

appease the environmentalists. we need a balance. instead of planting

All agreed with.
Even as a ten yo I couldnt see why these so called smart citizens would
build on good growing country.
Now I'm 60 odd years old, I see I was right.
Try telling any hierarchy theyre wrong and you will see they are only after
their wqon selfish interests.
I mean they could miss out on a deal that could cost them money, so they act
stupid like a fox in their own interests.

Work, fought my way to the top then health gave out from the effort &
stress. Near Toowoomba so heat no longer an issue. Used to be in the CFA.
Can feel for the guys fighting the fires as I have been there. One fire in
the hills we all had to off the tanker so it could go uphill.
