Please help with tall fescue problem...

Here's my hopefully easy solution to about 200 square ft. of
patchy tall fescue..

1. Spray round up and kill it, twice if needed
2. Rake in a little top soil over dead fescue
3. Seed area with different type of grass leaving dead fescue

Will this work? I really don't have the energy or time to dig it all
up... Thanks for your help!!

You use the term "patchy" does that mean outcompeted by weeds?

I suggest aerating and topdressing with 1/4 inch of good compost.
Reseed bare areas and lightly cover with 1/4 inch of good compost.

Healthy fescue will outcompete weeds. Feed with a fertilizer that will
promote a healthy soil food web.

Why not solarize it? As small as it is it will be inexpensive to
develop a healthy soil profile and have a lower maintenance lawn.

My recommendations stand, in principal. Just solarize the lawn with a
tarp. I have several scraps of pond liner that I use. Then aerate,
build soil and reseed with BG.

It's been very nice of you to help me with this... When you mean
"solarize" do you mean kill the grass with a tarp? (I actually have
a bunch of them I could use)
