View Full Version : Cheatgrass control - Plateau? Ornamec?

I have a wildflower garden that recently (past year) has been invaded by
cheatgrass. I spent much time pulling this grass out, and I sacrificed
heavily infested areas by spraying roundup. I then followed this up by
trying to establish native grasses. This worked in some areas, but as I
look out over the wildflower garden this fall, I see the cheatgrass
infestation returning in a number of areas (cue the psycho music...). I
need help. I've seen on the internet references to a herbicide called
Pateau that seems to target cheatgrass specifically. Does anyone know
anything more about this, and where I could purchase this? Another possible
herbicide that's been mentioned (though not specifically for cheatgrass) is
Ornamec 170. Has anyone successfully fought off cheatgrass, and can provide
some advice? Any experience with the herbicides mentioned (or other
controls)?

Thanks,
Dave Klein

I have no experience with anything but Roundup, but I will ask my brother,
who's a farmer in Montana, what he uses, though I think he just sprays early
in the spring with the Roundup.

You'll never get rid of it if your neighbors don't kill it too.
