seedling lemon - leaking sap?
ok,
got a seedling lemon tree 4 years old about 3+ meters high, leaking sap around some of the base at about 4"s up from the ground, it is in well drained position mulch not touching the trunk (what mulch that there is near it another mulching job to do). any ideas/suggestons please? tia -- len With peace and brightest of blessings, "Be Content With What You Have And May You Find Serenity and Tranquillity In A World That You May Not Understand." http://www.lensgarden.com.au/ |

On his weekend radio program (2UE, Sat/Sun morning 6-9) Don Burke may have provided your answer, Len. In answer to a similar question regarding a red gum, he said that it's a sign of a healthy tree (after eliminating borers and likely diseases). He said that after a period of rapid growth it is not unusual for the trunk to split and the emergence of sap indicates a healthy immune system: the sap protecting and sealing the split against pests and diseases. If your seedling lemon is anything like one I grew from seed, you can see it growing bigger by the minute! Mine became a prolific bearer of large fragrant fruit, and its branches carried wicked spears to ward off all but the most determined of thieves. -- John Savage (my news address is not valid for email) |
