Default are snails evolving to avoid snail bait?

My Mum has observed that snail bait seems to no longer hold the magnetic
attraction for snails that it once did. Even though she caters for all
tastes by putting out both types of bait (the real stuff and the pet-
friendly iron form), snails seem to pass it by.

I wonder have we inadvertently selected those snails with a poor sense
of smell (of whatever), for whom these baits hold little interest?
