Default Guava pruning

I hope one of you guys can help.

I have a Guava that flowered for the first time, last summer, and bore
LOTS of fruit. I was looking for info on pruning and I found an article
by a professional grower who stated that "as they fruited on this year's
wood.......". Armed with this, and my trusty secateurs, I duly pruned
it back at the end of the season.

This year it has put on lots of new growth, and what flowers and fruit
it has produced, is all on LAST year's wood.

So how should one prune a Guava? I would presume that I have to cut
back 1/2 the branches each year. Yes?

Fof
