Default Cotoneaster - remove old berries?

i have a cotoneaster that still has its berries from
last year. i just root pruned it recently it seems
to be coming back strong with new buds. anyhow,
i'm curious if i should remove the berries to allow
for this year's flowers and new berries? or does it have
no bearing on the newer growth?
