So far we have gotten nearly two inches of rain since midnight. Weather
station says much more to come. I can hear it coming down and it sounds
pretty heavy at this time. We needed the rain but I fear there is going
to be flooding. Weather station is sending out flood warnings and there
are a lot of highway underpasses in this county that have flooded before
and several folks have drowned in them.

Not to mention the bayous and creeks that flood routinely in this
county. Luckily we live on high ground and have not flooded so far.

Well, maybe there is hope for us across the Gulf from you, then.
We had approx 0.75 in. during October and 0.00 in November. Autumn is
one of our two normal "dry" seasons but, really.... The natterheads at
the local NPR station are going on this morning about a cold front
(maybe yours?) bringing rain early next week. I'll cover the firewood
and cross my fingers but won't hold my breath, to the chagrin of many, I
am sure ;-)

Up to 2.29 as of 1418 and still drizzling a wee bit, weather folk say
more is coming. We are grateful for the rain but there might be a light
freeze tonight. The sweet peppers, tomatoes, and eggplant etc. are still
producing from spring and summer. We picked figs two days ago, the
second crop this year, nothing to brag about but a nice treat in the
winter. Kumquats still have a few fruit still ripening but this is their
ripening time anyway. Have had some nice kumquat cakes and pies this
fall too.

This week I dressed up in long pants and long sleeved tee shirts, damned
winter! I've always wanted to move to Costa Rica, flew in there a few
times in my Navy days and it was always spring or summer. Lots of nice
fishing and hunting.

Damned idiots were out running fast up and down the highway when the
rain was really falling. It has been heavier south of us and near or in
Houston proper. I haven't watched any news today so don't know what the
death toll of idiots who drive off into underpasses or the ones who live
on a creek bank. I often wonder at the level of IQ a lot of folks here
have. Of course I'm a native Texan and have lived in several parts of
the state. A great many of our neighbors have moved here from up north
and way out west to get away from the taxes and the thieves. Some have
found out the thieves followed them and the taxes went up after they got
here. Used to be folks over 65 didn't pay land taxes but now they do. We
do get a slight discount though. Old days the state figured old people
didn't have kids in school and didn't use the roads much, not now.

You actually listen to NPR? The most liberal radio and TV in the US? The
only show on their TV I watch is that Antique Roadshow one. The only
news we watch is Fox National and the local Fox station. I figure the
other stations are just liberal propaganda. VBG

maybe ours getting down there. later this week
we have overnight temps getting down into the low
20s in the forecast. hope it doesn't make it down
that far!

cheers! had my first cup of hot chocolate
with green chili curry paste in it this morning.
have to start small (just a little bit for a
large mug, i work my way up to about a teaspoon
eventually). just a hint of heat/flavor but it
keeps the sinuses open and the blood nicely
warmed up along with the chocolate. i put enough
chocolate in there that it's also pretty much
breakfast. i went all day until after we got
back from the walk before i got hungry. in my
other recent readings i found out that chocolate,
candy bars, candle wax have about the same energy
as gasoline. at least the chocolate does
taste better. there's been a few times where
i've swallowed and burped small amounts of
gasoline. ucky...
