Default Do Plants add oxygen to freshwater aquariums

Plants are net producers of oxygen in an aquarium when they
have sufficient light, they are a net debit when they don't.
Some plants need much more light than others. See
http://sankey.ws/plantlumen.html
for how to determine your light level and a link to a good
listing of plants with their light requirements.
