Default Question on Home Design / Architecture study/schools

Question on Home Design / Architecture study/schools
************************************************** ******************

We are in California.

My daughter loves to design homes. She spends a lot of time drawing
homes
and is interested in homes. She enjoys visiting open house events. She
wants to design homes / be an architect or something in that space
involving design and this could include interior design and
landscaping.
She is fascinated with high end homes.

However, she struggles Math. How much of an impact will this have ?
How important is Math for a degree in architecture?
What is best suited for a child with this interest ?

What are the most important strengths that an architecture student
should have ?

Any input/suggestions/pointers on the above would be highly
appreciated.

PLEASE HELP.

Thanks,
Sue

You didn't say how old she is, but that aside she might be better off to go to a two year college first and then if she likes the program she can always transfer to a college that takes all her credits, a sister college. I went for horticulture and enjoyed land arch and transferred all my credits to a 5 year program in another state. With land arch there is some architecture, but no interior. She'll have to chose but a two year is a good place to start. No math is not a priority unless she gets into construction. First you have to see if she likes college. I now enjoy propagating perennials and make a living doing something totally different. If she doesn't enjoy math she'll have a problem figuring out a mortgage payment so get her some help now.

I would think that Arithmetic would be more important than math. Plus
Geometry and some trig to understand going from 2d paper to 3d
construction. Also some pratical experience in actually building
something. An architect can design something that is unbuildable unless
they have practical experience. They should be required to LIVE in what
ever they build for at least a year.

Keep encouraging her. If she is really interested and cares about
designing a proper building or home, she will acquire the arithmetic and
math skills she needs.
