Hi all,
The psycho dogman next door now has a cat. As much as I love cats, this darned thing keeps coming into my backyard and picks on 'my' cat. I separated a cat fight yesterday and will have to keep on taking my cat to the vet to treat abbcesses on the bum ('cause it's getting too old to run away fast enough). Anyhow, I've been told that spraying the fences and gate will do the trick. One woman said to spray detergent whilst a chap said to mix some chilli and garlic powder to use. What do you folk suggest? Is it sufficient to spray a gate/fence tops remembering that a cat is only at the top for 2.5 seconds while it jumps over or will the scent of the spray be enough to keep the cat 10 feet way, etc. *shrug* ....· ´¨¨)) -:¦:- ¸.·´ .·´¨¨)) ((¸¸.·´ ..·´ Raelene -:¦:- -:¦:- ((¸¸.·´* xxx Does the Little Mermaid wear an algebra? Do *everyone* a favour and keep your cat inside 24/7.... or invest in a
caged cat run. There is no way you can stop a cat coming into your yard with sprays etc. I've tried for years. I can almost guarantee that others will reply with "try a shotgun". ICQ - 24600909 I know this is probably nasty, but.... Have you considered a small electric fence unit? Run a bit of the leccy tape stuff just along the tops of the fence, and over any other possible points of entry. Does your old cat still climb the fence himself? If not, this might work for you... A gallagher 2km electric fence that can run off a 6V lantern battery(or 12v Car batt) is about $179. Simple to install, and you probably wouldnt need it for very long to get the invading cat adverse to your yard. I dont know much of another way; one post late last year had an innovative idea for a sprinkler that was triggered by a Light-beam or Passive Infrared Sensor. This might be a bit kinder on the cat. Actually, one of those arlec light-beam door alarms that you can buy from Dick-Smith hooked to a solenoid controlling a set of hefty sprays\sprinklers would be quite simple to rig up. You might need a control relay in there that latches on until someone resets it(otherwise the sprinklers will turn off before the cat has worked out what is happening). You could probably run the sprinkler line just below the top of the fence your side, and direct the sprays up. This reduces the chances of the neighbour getting upset from coming into his yard. The spray hitting puddin in the face would certainly annoy him no end... 3 or 4 simple components, but you would need someone who knows their way around electrical\electronics to set it up properly. My thoughts. Cheers, Rod.......Out Back |

I find a lead spray is satisfactory. Nominally, about 55grains at 3,200fps
will discourage any further feline visits. Failing that, ammonia on the visiting cat's starfish region will make it associate visits with pain - hopefully staying away. I really do not like cats. There is no way I see them fitting into our country unless they are kept inside, away from our wildlife, sandpits, places they spray with urine and generally being a pain in the bum to us who enjoy the idea of a little wildlife about, not having to be scared of entering the food chain via a cat. You might like to contact the Ranger at your Local Council who may be able to persuade the cat owner to confine the cat. Some Councils will loan you a trap to catch wandering cats, then after you have caught a cat you ring them and they take them away. -- Ted. |
