Default Was neighbour killed leylandii?

Hi All,

Bought this property a year ago, slowly bringing it up to shape and have now turned my attention to the hedge outside the front of the house.

it was always a bit patchy but i took a closer look and it seems the neighbours has hacked it to pieces.

this is probably illegal, i think there was zero overhang as the trees trunk starts half a foot from the boundary wall.

Questions:

will it ever re grow on their side, even if i drown it in miracle growth and compost?

is it easy enough to pull up and replace with new leylandii trees.

only problem is will have to confront the not so evolved neighbours and tell them that if they touch this tree, there will be issues.

any advice from anyone who has been through a similar issue?

thanks
