The tubes could be for mason bees (red and blue) one of which (red) will
use the tubes as the weather warms up in spring and the other (blue)
around this time of year. Ideally the opening in the tubes need to
point south and in direct sun, not dappled shade.

Red mason will block the tubes with mud after laying and providing
pollen as food. Blue mason will block the tubes with chewed up leaves.

Mason bees don't produce honey. They are pollinators and are docile
hence ok with kids.
