Default Changing over from Winter Rye Grass

"Vicky" wrote:
I've had a beautiful lawn all winter and spring in Virginia since I sowed
winter rye seed to cover the bare patches in my fescue lawn. Now it is
starting to turn brown and I want to convert the lawn back to fescue.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to accomplish that? I have
seeded with fescue and watered, but the winter rye seems to be choking it
out. Thanks, Craig

The thing about fine fescue (if that's what you have), is the thatch layer.

If it gets some sun,it turns into a sponge. You can feel it when you walk
over it. If your thatch layer is more than 1/2" with a fine fescue lawn,
I'd peel the whole thing off and plant turf type tall fescue.

If you already have turf type tall fescue, you need to slit seed. So long as
your thatch ain't too thick. ( i doubt it,if it's turf type tall F)
