I bought the initial things from the LFS, the tank the stand, the canopy,
tubes/ballasts, filters and a few chemicals, since then I have only
purchased online, that includes 70% of my fish as well.

You can knock that *way* down by planning ahead far enough to order
online.
Course you don't get that instant gratification/gotta have it now rush,
but
you save maybe 50%.
