Default Tomato seeds, supermarket or packet?

From: dommy

was planning on growing some tomatoes next year.

What is the difference between the tomato seeds that i take out of a
supermarket bought tomato and ready packaged tomato seeds.

Would it make any difference in yield between the two different type of
seeds. Ie taking seed out myself from a ripe tomato, or a ready bought
packet?

Yes it would make a difference--forget the market tomatoes and either buy seeds
or plants from a nursery or garden center--for a newcomer the best bet is to
buy transplants.

The supermarket tomatoes are most likely hybrids and may not breed true from
seed--if you could purchase your tomatoes direct from a market gardener who can
assure you that they are true breds then that's another story, even so i'm sure
that transplants must be available in the UK and that's the way to go.
