I have been musing over this thread & am wondering if maybe this is a
trait of this plant.........sending up as many spikes as it can as a last
hurrah!
I hope not ? Think I am going to give mine a good inspection, probably
needs repotting.

If this were my plant,
1... I would unpot & remove the bad stuff.
2...Bath in a Physan solution.
3...Sprinkle cinnamon on any wounds.
4...Repot in a mix of your choice, in a tight fitting pot.
5...Pray a lot!
