PS...Why does everyone skip Oracle and Tucson?

I dunno, but they shouldn't. Tucson is a much more restful place
than Phoenix -- and even when it's hot in midsummer it seems more
bearable. It is the approach to Tombstone, which is fun, Bisbee,
which is interesting, and you can go to Nogales (USA and Mexico)
on the "Road from Tucson, Tubac, Tumacaccori, To Hell" (now,
unfortunately 4 or 6 laned so you travel so danged fast you can't
SEE anything) making stops at each on the way. ;-) (It's an old
stage road that once was plagued by robbers who were merciless to
drivers and passengers.)

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is one of the best nature
centers in the world (if you like native desert plants, it is THE
place to go), and the Saguaro National Monument OUGHT to be a
National Park. You can ski in the winter. The observatory is
good for looking at stars AND better for looking down over the
desert scenery.

Remnants of the oldest Spanish mission in the United States are
near Nogales, the second oldest is at Tumacaccori, and the second
or third oldest mission that is still in use (and a gorgeous
building) -- San Xaviar del Bac -- is on the outskirts of Tucson.

There's nothing in or near Phoenix to compare. Except dust
storms.

Now, Sedona, on the other hand . . . but you have to be rich as
King Faruk to live there. And the Grand Canyon has to be seen by
everyone before they die. (Both of them are best approached
through Phoenix, so perhaps that's the reason.)

were back there!
