Just wondering, is this algae or is it duckweed? I know duckweed grows
quickly and will cover the small surface like that fast. Can you see the
actual 'algae' or is it the microscopic stuff?

If it is duckweed, just make sure that you get all of it off the top and not
leave a few here and there.

If algae, you might start doing more water changes or you need to siphon the
bottom of your tank in the gravel to get any extra 'crap' out of there. It
is also possible that your aquarium is also over-populated too.

So, it can be a lot of different things.

Both of my tanks are suffering with some kind of floating algae. It builds
up over 3 or 4 days till the whole surface is covered in it. It can be
removed (mostly) by just skimming the surface off using a jar but its a

bit
tedious. No other major Algae problems in either tank, Nitrates &
Phosphates are low, water is clear & the surface movement is much the same
as it has been for ages (years even!). Fish are fine & don't seem to care.

On close examination it seems to be made up of tiny strands less than 1mm

in
length.

Anyone have any cluses as to how to get rid of it?
