Default Drainage for a lawn on clay soil

Is there anywhere for the water to go? Water finds its own level and you
MUST be able to get it off sight. Question. Where?

Only you can answer that one. Look around you at neighbour's gardens and the
road. Are they higher than your ground? Yes? Problem :-((
