I've found a huge stack of old slate roof tiles in the corner of my
shed and was wondering if they could be of any use in the garden ? I
am all for recycling and thought perhaps they could be put to use as
some kind of decorative mulch. Is this a feasible idea ? Perhaps
someone could suggest other practical garden uses for the tiles. I
would appreciate any imaginative solutions !

I have birds which throw any mulch I use all over the place and I must use
mulch to retain moisture in the soil. I use rocks on top of mulch around
newly planted trees.

Rocks can also be used to capture the sun's heat during the day and to then
release heat to warm the plant overnight. Perhaps they could be used in
this way. Or even to just sit on top of some clear ground to warm it up at
the start of the season.

Perhaps they could also be used as an edging round veg beds as they could
sit up higher than the surrounding soil if you need to slightly raise beds.

Or use them on a small tool shed perhaps.

Whatever you do, don't chuck them. You'll find a use at some time.
