Hmmmm... yours died and hers are still going....did you perform the
requisite sacrifice to the orchid gods? *G* Just kidding, there are no
orchid go..... well maybe I'll stop before I finish typing that
thought....

Jankey's links should help you, if they don't you may consider physical
factors like drafts at your house vs your girlfriend's house. Or
different temps at your place vs the GF's. Also many times the plant's
position at the store is the culprit, yours got more blasts of air from
the opening/closing store doorway, hers didn't. Stuff like that. Or
yours could be a different type of phalaenopsis from your GF's.

Do not give up. Yours may bloom again in 6 months time. The old spike
may branch and give you more orchids, the buds at the tip may elongate
the old spike with more flowers, or a new spike may start from the base.
Never can tell.
