Not the blue rose in particular, but the blue flower has been a key symbol of romanticism, especially in German literature at thee beginning of the 19th century. It stands for love, longing as well as for the
lighting of the Enlightenment. Novalis andd Eichendorff use this symbol very often, but also C.S. Lewis or Philip k. Dick make references to it.
