We recently spent some time in Honolulu, and as
always enjoyed seeing the large Koi in multiple
viewable ponds.
We have recently moved homes and no longer
have ponds, but even prior to that pretty much
gave up interest on anything like Koi. Our fish
had included goldfish, commets, schubunkins
and a few Koi, but the longest any survived
predation was about 2 years.

What surprised me was:
"Koi fish have an average life span of 70 to 80 years, said Kodama,
although there are records of a koi that lived more than 200 years."
NO KIDDING!!

and:
"Kodama said Hawaii is an ideal place to raise koi due to the quality
of the island water and year-round warm weather. A number of
mainland koi owners "board" their prized fish at the farm for those
reasons."
Just seems 'strange' to 'board' out your relaxing calming
pet fish. But, hey, what do I know, I kept them where
they all got eaten!!!!
