Default Large Pampas Grass

Hi,

We have quite a large Pampas Grass in the garden.

We are trying to encourage some new growth this year as we only had one rather pathetic looking plume last year.

Some friends have suggested cutting it right down and then burning the outsides of it.

Has anyone tried this method? Does it work?

Most importantly what time of year should this be done?

Help!!!
