G'day all,
I have a number of black pots the type you get when you buy
plants from a Nursery. I've planted some herbs in them. However they don't
look all that great. Just wondering if anyone has some low cost tips on how
to spruce them up a bit. I was thinking of spray painting them a better
colour as a start but I think the paint will peel off too easily. Any Ideas
?

What about sanding with a heavy grade sandpaper first?

Or just spraying a stencil (try using some interesting leaves as a stencil).

Or wrapping some hessian around the outside and tying off with hemp or sisle
rope.

Or coiling the top and bottom with cheap sisle rope. A spot of hot glue gun
should secure it.

Or hot gluing any manner of found (or bought) objects. How about some
google eyes from a cheapie shop?

Any number of ideas.

Concealment. Put 'em in some sort of planter box/trough.

Chookies idea of concealing them in a planter box or similar would be good.
But if you want to paint them, get hold of some "plastic" primer. Paint that
on first, then your spraypaint.
Try an Auto parts place, or even the auto paint section of K-mart. You can
either get the plastic primer, then paint any colour over it you want, or
there are some "plastic" paints available, just less range of colours that
way, so go the primer idea.

I have used some of those treated pine garden edging rolls to surround a
group of old pots. Hides them well, you can change pots within the group as
the plants age, and the edging comes in different depths for different size
pots.

Hello I have used an old tooth brush and splatter painted several shades of
colour onto pots before. Doesnt look too bad, needsa bit of practice to get
the look you are after.... Trish in sydney.. :)
