PLANT UTSAV 2002
The fifth annual all-Goa festival of plants organised by the Botanical
Society of Goa will be held at Panaji Municipal Garden near Church
Square from 29 November to 01 December,2002. The three day festival
presents an unique opportunity to plant lovers to see plants,meet other
plant lovers,learn skills,sharenotes,participate,compete,buy plants and
garden inputs. It is also an ocassion for NGOs and Government agencies
dealing with plants to rub shoulders and build up a rapport.The
Department of Science,Technology and Environment,the Forest Department,
the Directorate of Agriculture,The National Institute of
Oceanography,The Goa University,Cabo Raj Bhavan,the Ministry of
Environment and Forests (Delhi), the Goa Nurserymen's
Association,People's Movement for Civic Action,Worldwide Fund For
Nature,Goa Horticulture Association, member schools and colleges have
been associated with this event since its inception.This year the Panjim
Municipal Council is its partner in presenting the event.

PLANT UTSAV consists of competitions in potted flowering and other
ornamental plants from Anthuriums to Zamias,with Begonias,Cacti
,Dieffenbachias and other categories along the way. A special focus this
year are orchids and anthuriums. There will be a number of Bonsai and
miniature plants on display. The other competitions are for
arborics,fresh flower arrangements,garland (veni and jhelo ) making,wild
flower bouquet/bridal bouquet, andvegetable carving.For school students
there will be a quiz competition and on-the-spot tray garden
competition. Potted plants and arborics should arrive at the venue on 28
November between 1500 and 1900 hours (3 to7 P.M. ).On the spot
competitions are on Sunday 01 December from 0930 hours.For details email
