I have this camellia japonica. It was a special gift, but it fails to
thrive. It is watered, it is fertilised, it is spoken to kindly. I potted
2 other camellias at the same time I potted this one, and they go ahead in
leaps and bounds.

The new leaves go half brown and withered and fall off, the old leaves stay
on the tree.

Can any one suggest what this is................(I am considering repotting
this in new mix)

First of all, is the pot raised off the ground/above the saucer? How many
drainage holes in the pot?

Camellias really hate wet feet and will do what you have described if they sit
in water or the drainage holes block.

Another thought is have you used a new concrete pot? Camellias aren't keen on
lime.

Yet another thought...

What brand of potting mix? I have seen some mixes that are very chunky. These
mixes can block the drainage holes and lead to waterlogging.
