Default white worms in the clay

Hello,

Are white worms true earthworms?

For awhile my garden had no worms in it. We dug and found nothing - not even
compost red worms.

Getting compost worms, red worms, is the easy part. Local Nurseys have them
in buckets - literally.

I, this is the wierd part, found a white worm on the pavement. I placed it
in my garden bed and now when I dig my garden I find white worms in the deep
clay.

Are they earth worms? And if so how can I encourage them to reproduce?

Cherio!
