Where can I buy a plant of Chinese Hawberry?
Does anybody know a nursery source in Australia for the shrub
Crataegus pinnatifida major - Chinese Hawberry or Chinese Hawthorn? I am assuming, of course, that it is not counted as a quarantine weed. The shrub is related to the ordinary Hawthorn (or May, as it is known in Britain) that certainly grows in hedgerows in the Southern Highlands of NSW. It has pea-sized berries that only birds bother to eat. The Chinese Hawthorn on the other hand has humanly edible fruits about 20 cm long - the size of small olives. You can buy them bottled in syrup in Sydney's Haymarket stores with Chinese produce. |
