Perhaps a PO box!

I have the same problem and a sprinkling of snail pellets around the base of
the letter box is usually good enough. The poor snails in the box usually
end up slammed into the road, a tree and if big enough cast in the heathens
place 3 doors away.

You could also go out as it turns dark and hunt the beggars down, the snails
that is!

Cheers

Richard

Get rid of the ones in there then spray post with copper spray or wrap a pit
of copper wire around the post - they don't like it

I realise that the question seemed really dumb, but honestly, I was
quite surprised by the resilience of snails.

In the first place, I was astonished that snails actually ate, even
liked, long-dead cellulose products like paper.

Secondly, I was even more surprised that even after I cleared the
surroundings of easy entry, coupled with the legendary slow pace of
the critters, I was no match for them.

They came, they ate, they left. It's not that they ate that much, it's
more embarrassing than anything when I take a cheque to the bank and I
weakly say 'Snails.??..'

I really don't want to saturate the place with chemicals because I
quite admire snails really, they don't have that much going for them.

The other option could be Leopard Slugs or some of the other slugs. I
know I've had some slugs eat paper. But the same advice applies to
them as for snails so I guess it doesn't matter what it is.

You would use copper spray for leaf curl on peaches but a bit of
copper wire from the centre of an old piece of plastic covered wire
from the tip would work as well and may be cheaper (if you can beat
the tip recyclers to it given the price of copper at the scrap
merchants these days).

Err, I thought the idea was not to name anything you intend to eat?
Or are they all called Francis?

Isn't it easier just to collect the snails, feed them old bread for a
while, then cook them directly?

What's the best way to stop them ? Grr. Put a bowl of cheap full strength beer at the bottom of the letter box. They love it and when they drink it they get drunk and fall in and drown. It works brilliantly. Then tip out all the dead snails and refill the bowl. Good luck.
