Can someone tell me if its OK to plant tomatos near cabbages, say 30cm
distance?
Thanks in advance,
Pete

The only reason I could think not to (not that I know much) is that
cabbages like lots of nitrogen, whereas if you give tomatoes too much
nitrogen they don't produce many fruit (putting all their effort into
growing leaves instead). There is also something at the back of my
mind about cabbages liking soil to have more limestone than tomatoes
like ....

Yeah, you might be right but I haven't fed the cabs with lime. Also they
will be on the way out now, planted them for colour to be truthful, great
lilac coloured leaves, however they will eventually end up as coleslaw!
Thanks for your post.

A bit further away. I'd go for 50cm with something smallish and short-lived
(radishes?) in between to use the space. Both the cabbages and tomatoes like
a bit of lime in the soil and plenty of food and regular water. Erratic
watering will give you split tomatoes and cracked cabbage hearts.
