Default Anyone grow Balinese corn?

Last summer I grew Balinese sweet corn for the first time, I got the seed from
Diggers Club. It grew very tall and lush and had large ears about 30cm long.
Except that when you open the ear there is a huge amount of husk and waste
space and a little cob inside about 12cm long.

Can anybody say for sure if this is just how Balinese corn grows or is it
something to do with the conditions.

David
