Smallish annual veges with shallow root systems, eg lettuce, basil, spinach,
beans. Not pumpkins or artichokes!

what kind of soil do i need

Good quality potting mix or garden loam with added manure or compost

and what can i plant now

Abigail

Assuming that you are in the non tropical part of Oz any of the warm season
veges that will fit. Get any basic book on home vege gardens from the
library, Clive Blazey is good.
