This is a useful site, len. Although it's not a complete key, it *does* have
pictures!

http://www.utas.edu.au/docs/plant_sc...s/fammono.html

and this link

www.publish.csiro.au/books/bookpage.cfm?PID=3280

should take you to the Ausgrass page. It's a CDROM for identifying grasses in
Australia and I *wish* I had it!

If you Google 'Poaceae' and 'key', you should get a few hits. Some universities
publish their Botany notes online...

Anyway, hope that's of some help to you? ;-D

thanks trish,

might yet have to join a library and see what they have, the problem
is in most cases if you don't know the family name of a grass or
legume and if you don't know the correct spelling then it all falls
flat.

for the lay person what is needed is some good clear pics of a variety
of native and common species so that we can then get a name for what
we have. most pics on line are very dark and don't show much detail.

will do the google search later.

thanks again
