Default Wanting to mak White Oil ( callled Dormant Oil in US)

Hi All,

White oil Spraying time - found a recipe for making your own but was in
foreign language ( US).

I have discerned that Mineral Oil equates to Liquid Parrafin here in
Australia ( I could be wrong)

I am not sure of what oil-based soap is - help requested

Figured out what water is!!!

The measurements have been interpreted thus: 1 Gallon ( presume US is
3.785 Litres, i Pound is 454 grams

cheers

dj

RECIPE
--------
1 gallon mineral oil
1 pound oil-based soap
1/2 gallon water

Combine all ingredients, boil, and mix very well. Dilute 1:20 with water and
use immediately because the ingredients separate quickly.

Spray on a day when the temperature is above 40 degrees and you are not
expecting a freeze for at least 24 hours. Drench the branches of your shrubs
and trees thoroughly - it's impossible to overdo it.

For citrus trees, you should buy a special dormant oil from your garden
supply store. Citrus leaves can be damaged by the film that remains on the
leaves.

Don Burke had a go at making white oil on his TV show, well over a year ago
I would say it was. Have a look at his website.

IIRC he mixed something like canola oil and water, and just whipped them
to a white frenzy with an ordinary kitchen blender. His mixture had to be
sprayed straightaway before the oil and water start to separate. I believe
he said any of the light edible oils could be used.

Peter Cundall, the presenter of Gardening Australia, also presents a
radio show. Below is a link to a story on that radio show regarding home
made white oil.
http://www.abc.net.au/brisbane/stories/s780287.htm

Also try http://www.thewaterwisegarden.com/bicarb.htm
Water wise garden has a recipe to treat powdery mildew and blackspot, plus
one for white oil.

Hope I've been some sort of help.

I've tried the bicarb and it does help, but I read somewhere it's not a
good idea to use it a lot because of the sodium it adds to the soil.

I actually had found the recipe by Mr Cundell, and some by one or two
others, but it is always good for other posters to mention useful sites.
Not everyone reading newsgroups has cheap access to the web, so although
most people can go to a given URL, not all can indulge their own search
engine investigations as thoroughly as is often needed.
