have two spots in seperate lawns where the grass has turned a bright
yellow colour. it stays this way for a few weeks, then die's off to the
usual brown colour.

anyone know what causes it?

are the spots round? Give them a good soaking & wait to see if small, black,
shiny beetles come out of the lawn. If they do you have a choice of
squashing them or using chemicals for lawn beetles.

Could be... watering in the urine will avoid dead spots, if you dont mind
following the dog around with a hose. Or else apparently cutting down on the
amount of hard food fed to the dog will also stop the problem.

doubtful. we keep the gates closed so there haven't been any dogs in our
yard (that we know of)

OK... the soil under lawn can become compacted over time... maybe try
airating the lawn with a pitchfork & giving it a soak with wettasoil... I'm
not convinced that is the problem, but it's worth a try. Some types of lawn
do tend to die off during winter... Do you know what your lawn is?

If all else fails talk to your local friendly lawn mower or garden centre
sales person.

So I think you should question hubby. (Oh, perhaps you *are* hubby?)

Does hubby walk across the lawn after arriving home late from work? ;-)
