Default Grass burning problem...help required

I have completed some landscaping that included the laying of a new lawn.

I have layed this over what was brick footings of old garden wall/shed.

They are about 12 18 inches below the finished surface.
I am now seeing the footprint of the footings as burn marks on the lawn.

I don't think it's the lime out of the cement if it's from an *old* building,
and at that depth. Perhaps the footings were sprayed with something toxic for
pest/weed control?

All I can think of is to water the area to leach out the contaminant, or have
your soil tested. Frankly, it sounds all a bit creepy. I would be looking at
testing.
