the native lime (finger lime)
I have lately seen two segments on the ABC concerning the native lime,
with the fruit retailing under the name "Finger Lime" for up to $20/kg. For those who missed the promotion, apart from its zingy taste, part of the novelty is that the inside of the gerkin-sized fruit is packed full of capsules of flavour like the inside of a pomegranate only without the seeds. I'd like to know whether the native lime trees are just as attractive to the same pests as bedevil exotic citrus trees, viz., the citrus leaf miner and the bronze citrus beetle? It would be a big tick in their favour if the native trees were immune to the attentions of these pests. Anyone here have experience with the native lime? I think one program said that, under ideal conditions, the trees can attain a height of 12 metres. -- John Savage (news address invalid; keep news replies in newsgroup) |
