Cool Will bamboo grow under a black walnut tree?

Hello,

I've been looking high and low for information about the juglone tolerance (or intolerance) of bamboo. Does anyone know or have experience growing bamboo within the 'kill zone' of a black walnut?

Please help!

Thanks in advance.

Why not just give it a try. Brought in soil on the start if concerned.

Nothing more than bring in new soil that is not affected by the Black
Maple. Perhaps a yard or so. This would or could give the bamboo time
to establish.

Do you eat the Black Walnut Nut in brittle like I do?

Grasses are very tolerant of juglone.
I see no difference in the growth of Plieoblastis when the squirrel
planted walnuts show up in the middle of a patch.

Thumbs up

Thanks. All of this is what I was hoping to hear and I am going to give it a try. Thing is, I want to use the bamboo for a screen and don't really want to have to start over once it gets tall enough (or not)! I've ordered Umbrella Bamboo - don't have the 'fancy pants' latin name handy (fargesia something...)

I suppose if bamboo was juglone intolerant it would be easier to find information!

We don't harvest our walnuts. We leave them hoping the squirrels will eat more of them and less of our birdseed!

Thanks for your comments!

Happy plantings!
