I have been very happy ordering from www.bambu-u.com. The owner is very
helpful and knowledgeable. I live in Connecticut and he ships from
Washington State. I've recommended him to others who have been very happy
with his service and prices.

Of course, as you know Travis, that bamboopeople is at best a
****-poor half list for bamboo sources. It may change for the better
in the near future, but for right now it is schlock.

Off the top of my head, decent mail order sources I've heard about
a

Though more expensive than many growers, I have heard they do have
good mail order plants and will most likely arrive alive and ready to
go. Ideally you would want to find an actual nursery that grows the
plants in the same area where you live, but that is not always
possible. Be very careful about what you want to plant because bamboo
that grows one place will die right away in others, and these vendors
will sell you the plants you ask for, they may not say that it is a
bad idea for your area.

For growth information or plant hardiness check out
www.endangeredspecies.com and look at the list of all bamboo plants (
http://www.endangeredspecies.com/tex...fo/species.htm
). If they have data on a plant it is almost always accurate and from
sources who actually grew the plants in the condition described. They
will also happily answer email questions for you.

I ordered from www.bamboodirect.com last year.

I knew that the bamboo that I ordered (clump-type) is marginal in my
area (zone-6) (as warned in their web site). But I ordered anyway. I
plant them last fall, and they all died during the winter. The lesson
is: If the web site says that the bamboo is only marginal in our area,
we may not want to try it.

Will I order from the web site again? Sure, I will. But I will not
order anything that are rated only marginal in my area.

Don't give up my top killed clumpers are showing a few shoots now in all this rain
