I recently planted three young Bambusa Lako (three to five culm, about 10ft) and
I'm wondering how long they should take to recover from the shock. It's been a
month now, and they're still looking very ragged and dropping leaves. The one
that was looking good turned orange (leaves, not the culms) and eventually
dropped most of the leaves.
Will it recover, and how long will it take? How big might it be by summer (it's
on the south side of the house).

Just mulch heavily and keep the moisture level up, if it looks dead,
just keep tending it. It will pop back in its own good time. I
planted some Bambusa Vulgaris "Wamin" from a great looking large
division. It dropped 75% of its leaves and all but 2 of the culms
died. During shooting season it put up two nice sized shoots and
leafed out like crazy.

Bamboo often looks dead, especially after a transplant, it rarely
actually dies.
