Bamboo for trellises
I am seriously looking at a house on 1.2 acres in Orange County,
North Carolina. It's USDA 7a or 7b. My initial thought was to start bamboo seeds hydroponically and then plant them. When they reach 8 feet, I would harvest them and use them for trellises. So I would want a dozen thick ones (2-3") and 3-4 dozen thin ones (.5"). I know this is a good idea because my wife approved of it. After reading much of this newsgroup, I am concerned about containment and uprooting the plant. Please offer some containment strategies. At what age does uprooting become a problem? Any specific bamboos I should be seeking or avoiding? Dick |
