Default [IBC] On the horns of . . .

I'm finding that decision making is tough as I begin
preparations for our upcoming move north and try to cull out
the tree collection.

I _have_ decided to get rid of trees down to those I "kinda
like." But it's tough. I find myself changing my mind and
moving trees back and forth from one table to another.

One "final" decision has to be made before this Sunday, as
I'm taking several bonsai (and would-be bonsai) for sale and
raffle to our monthly club meeting. What's going is a
Nandina forest on a large (3-ft) slab, several small privet
"nearly-finished" bonsai, a Chinese elm saikei on a tile, A
juniper whose potential _I_ have never brought out, and
others. Some probably will be bought more for the pots and
slab than the bonsai.

That'll leave all the really tough decisions for the week
before our NEXT month's meeting. After that, they either
get tossed, left behind, or taken with us.

Tough decisions indeed. I don't envy your dilemma.

A bonsai buddy and I were in my back yard some time ago talking about
thinning out our respective collections; after looking at many trees we came
to the conclusion that the stuff we want to get rid of is the stuff that no
one else would want, and the stuff that someone would want is the stuff that
we want to keep. Catch 22.

Maybe the best solution is to get a bigger moving van and take it all with
you. :-))

No. I need to thin the mass/mess, anyway.

I'm taking some to sell (most for little more than the pots
are worth -- 10% to the club -- but a nice Nandina forest on
a 3-foot manufactured slab and a fair Chinese elm on a
tile), and some for our club raffle ($1 a pop). The stuff
that doesn't sell I'll bring back, toss the plants and keep
the pots, except *maybe* the Nandina. The stuff that
doesn't raffle, I'll just dump in the garden compost pile
where we have our meetings.

So it might seem, Roger, but it turns out that one man's trash is
another man's treasure. Things that you wouldn't want, and
couldn't imagine someone else wanting are often sought eagerly by
others. Especially if it is low priced or free.

I took a dozen trees/potensai/plants to be raffled, and 5 to
be sold, and didn't bring a thing back home. Club's happy
and I'm happy.

More next month.
