Default [IBC] post trunk chop question?

i trunk chopped a quecus agrifola in january, it has budded out rather
exposlively. i didn't root prune so there is a lot of energy stored, i
want to eventually train a new leader, the closest sprout is an inch and
a half away from top of angle cut. should i just continue to let it it
grow un touched or should i try to control some of thge growth? hopefully
ill have pictures to share with u all soon
