[IBC] Moss in dry climes (was: [IBC] Misting outdoor trees)

Brent, Nina...and others who have responded to this thread...

I suspect that Brian may be trying to cultivate moss...we do
have some sucess
(not me, even though retired, I don't have the time for the
misting) with moss
here in Southern Arizona.


Stuff like moss is tough in the desert southwest.

Desert growers would do best by raising separate trays of moss in
semi-shaded nursery flats kept where drying desert winds don't
reach them, then applying the moss on the surface of a bonsai
when it is going off to be displayed somewhere.

Applying enough water to keep moss green around a bonsai in a pot
will make the soil too wet and will lead to root rot in the
bonsai. A dead bonsai in a bed of nice green moss is not the
goal.

We who live where moss is easy to grow spend an unduly large
amount of our time _removing_ moss from our pots and the trunks
of our trees.
