mealy bugs

I have my bonsais and other plants in a sunroom. I have recurring mealy
bugs on several plants. What causes them to occur? I've cleaned them off
with alcohol before but they come back. There's a good bit of light in the
room. It's not in the room, actually it's on the cool side.
Thanks
Michelle

Other mealybugs. Your plants have become infested somehow. Mealybugs
thrive indoors and can destroy untreated plants.

Alcohol is one way to deal with them, but you will need to take -all-
the plants outside and treat them with pesticides if you really want
to get rid of the bugs. Mealybugs are persistent and tough to control
without pesticides. Use pesticides specified to control mealybugs,
and be sure the chemicals are compatible with your plants.

Move your bonsai outdoors when conditioins permit. They'll do better
out there.

IBC Mailing list

Just FYI.

The Internet Bonsai Club (IBC) mailing list that once was linked
to rec.arts.bonsai is gone. That undoubtedly is one reason
messages have been so scarce lately.

We are working to revive a mailing list that we can link to
r.a.b. in order than more experienced bonsaiests can be on hand
to provide help, so please stand by.

You may want to check out the "Galleries" at
www.internetbonsaiclub.org. Help is available in the "General
Discussion" forum.

mealy bugs are sap suckers which coat themselves in a white cooton wool like substance, on stems and under leaves, mainly in hot comditions, you can easily remove them with a damp cloth or cotton bud but large numbers will need to be treated with a sysremic insectcide the temp has to be right.
